Mass Murders by Democrats?

Seen on a blog

1. Ft Hood~~~ Registered Democrat ~ Muslim

2. Columbine ~~~ Too young to vote; both families were registered Democrats and progressive liberals.

3. Virginia Tech ~~~ Wrote hate mail to President Bush and to his staff ~ Registered Democrat

4. Colorado Theater ~~~ Registered Democrat; staff worker on the Obama campaign;
Occupy Wall Street participant; & progressive liberal.

5. Connecticut School Shooter- ~~~ Registered Democrat; hated Christians.

Common thread is that all of these shooters were progressive liberal Democrats.

Also, of the worst killings in the last several decades, only one was a female,
all the rest were boys, barely men, and none of them had a strong male father
or role model in the household. Their role models were rappers, action movies,
comics and violent video games. Our problem isn't weapons, it's boys without
boundaries. Who live in 'progressive' households

Fukushima Lies After the Earthquake

WonderingNThinking
Think Before We Sink
9 hours ago ( 3:31 AM)
This all sounds like a bunch of doublespeak:
http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/nu/fukushima-np/index-e.html

After the earthquake occurred at 5:18 pm on December 7, 2012, we have conducted checkups at the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station, and have found there was no problem.
Since we had found positive pressure in the reactor building of Unit 1, we have started Stand by Gas Treatment System* (the pressure was 0.05 kPa at that time of the start), and confirmed negative pressure in the reactor building. The negative pressure has been kept currently. We will conduct inspections for the cause of this matter.

The fluctuation of the monitoring post readings is being maintained within the range of normal fluctuation before and after the earthquake and currently no radiation impact to the outside of the power station has been reported due to the earthquake. The Unit 1 of Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station is under the cold shutdown condition and there is no problem.

Nuke Pro sayeth------
 ---------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, real doublespeak, you wonder how much is translation related, but obviously simple concept like "no problem" versus.....we found positive pressure, i.e. the coriums remaining in the building were jostled around with the cooling crust broken and the hot underlying corium shaken and stirred and reacting with metals and producing hydrogen and other gases which  definitely released alot of radioactive gases, and of course, potentially highly explosive.   However, since we can now operate a venting system and eject these radioactive and explosive gases high into the atmosphere through our remaining vent towers, we are able to report that our already fudged radiation monitors at ground level and upwind...well, suffice it to say that we only had to lie a little bit to say "no problem".

By dilution of these radioactive gases into  the atmosphere of the HOME PLANET, we have effectively protected the workers at the jobsite, thereby setting up our "get out of jail free card" to prevent lawsuits, and of course we can continue to parrot " no one harmed by Fukushima".    Thank Kami-san for science and those tall venting towers, and the fact that the Government is now complicit in the cover up operations since we are effectively nationalized, however the elite at the top can still extract huge salaries and bonuses as if this was a non-zombie company, but after all, we are stressed out so you are lucky we don't just run away.

Ruh-roh, I guess it is winter again...maybe we better check the insulation on the pipes so they don't freeze and leak like last year....but that is messy work, so we will just say that with nuclear power fighting the evil global warming causes by natural gas, that with the global warming that freezing is beyond the design basis, and therefore we can get the ratepayers AND taxpayers to pay us more to cleanup any freeze related mess caused by this mother nature that we can't predict.

Out TEPCO (masters of shenanigans and fleecing)

Sierra Club takes Stance against Nuke

Why Nuclear Power Doesn't Make Sense

As the disasters at Chernobyl, Three Mile Island and Fukushima have shown, nuclear power can cause catastrophic damage to land, human health, and our food supply. We should pursue our cleanest, quickest, safest, and cheapest energy options first: Nuclear power comes out last in every one of those categories.
In the long-term, nuclear power is also unnecessary: With an intensive effort to exploit our clean energy resources, we can power our society, create good jobs, and keep our environment healthy with renewable energy such as solar and wind. With the right policies and investments, we can achieve 100 percent renewable energy in our lifetimes -- without nuclear power.

Fukushima resources after the Earthquake

 Links below are stolen from
http://www.logophere.com/Fukushima%20Resources.htm

AFter Higgins house and website were wiped out by Sandy, I learned the importance of not relying on another website to store link locations.   So I will store them here, with credit to the source.

Dec07.12  5:00 am PST  The Fukushima hit by 7.3 Richter EQ and 1 m. tsunami.  The area has been bouncing along at 5-12 EQ a week for quite a while.  Today is the worst since 3/11.  Here's what my resources are saying 5 hours after the initial shock.
  • I see MSNBC report on the latest 7.3 EQ near Fukushima, with 1 m tsunami.
  • Live TEPCO webcam shows good, clear shot. Everything quiet and looking normal.  Helpful
  • Live TBS webcam is down.  Worthless.
  • TBS historical camera 2012.1207_17.23@2:41-2:49 shows the EQ, no visible effect on the facility. Helpful.
  • USGS EQ map says 7.3 at 08:18 UTC -- followed by multiple bumps over 6.0 Helpful
  • ENENews is down at first but comes up.  Says nothing.  Worthless.
  • Nicholls EQ map is scrambled..  Worthless.
  • Jap gov't EQ map -- minimal info.  Almost worthless.
  • Japanese gov’t EQ "predictor" says "No information."  Worthless.
  • Fukishima Diary is reporting in real time, and using the event to beg for money, as per usual.  Helpful
  • Fairewinds says nothing, except begging for money, as usual.  Worthless.
  • JapanTimes says nothing.  Worthless
  • Fukushima Update says nothing.  Worthless.

Greed and Science discussion at Huffpost

I see no signs that society mistrusts science or engineering. I see society mistrusted big corporations, oil and nuke, governments, human greed, GMO, mass media and its unstoppable lies and propaganda, vested interests such as unions and old school business models.

But never have I seen the vaguest hint that science and engineering itself are mistrusted.

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2012/03/29/study-conservatives-trust-of-science-hits-all-time-low-

I'm interested in your response, would you trust nuclear if it was publicly-built and controlled, owned by the US, its scientists, and engineers in the DOE? Like a research lab?
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Interesting articles---

It seems a big part of the so called mistrust is based in a greater shift to a religious pack mentality.

Not a broad indictment of science, and in particular I didn't see engineering enter the equation at all.

Although people may think the travesties of the Gulf Oil spill and Fukushima to be engineering failures, but I think most people realize these are not engineering failures, but failures of greed and regulation, of captured regulatory bodies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The numbers were a stark blow to high-school science teachers everywhere: forty-six per cent of adults said they believed that “God created humans in their present form within the last 10,000 years.”

Read more: http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/frontal-cortex/2012/06/brain-experiments-why-we-dont-believe-science.html#ixzz2Djx9WIBv
I believe this goes more to a "retreat to the pack mentality" caused by the unbridled greed of the financial greatest theft on earth, drawings people into religion.
Not necessarily a distrust of science and engineering.

The last article also indicates somehow its only the conservatives that have developed a distrust of science, and they seem to be a little crazier than most when it comes to stuff like abortion, creationism.

I wont ever trust nuclear again, as long as humans as part of the equation.   Those who can't see this have their ego in the clouds and their heads in the sands.

Vogtle over budget, behind schedule

And all the players are fighting each other, suing each other, contradicting each other.....sure when something make no economic sense, that is what we should expect.  Sheesh when a $200M plant like Kewaunee is shutting down for economics, why would a $14000M plant like Vogtle make any sense?

It doesn't
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From PowerGen Magazine

The addition of two new nuclear reactors at the Vogtle plant in eastern Georgia could be completed a year or more behind schedule say the lead contractors on the project, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Co. (NYSE: SO), disagreed with the contractors, The Shaw Group (NYSE: SHAW) and Westinghouse Electric Corp., insisting that a delay is not inevitable while conceding that any delay could lead to higher consumer utility bills. Georgia Power blames worker training, increased oversight and stiffer regulatory requirements for throwing the project off schedule, which the company expects could cost an additional $100 million.
Westinghouse and the Shaw subsidiary are also suing Georgia Power and the co-owners of Vogtle for breach of contract due to additional construction costs. They say Georgia Power is responsible for at least half of the costs.
The new reactors under construction at the Vogtle plant are the first new reactors built in the United States in three decades. Regulators are thus keeping a particularly scrutinizing eye on the project, Georgia Power said.

North pole shifting

Funny, how the last report of the north pole position was over 5 years ago, however in the prior 5 year period, the north pole has move more than in the last 100 years.   hmmmm

Do your own Google search to find 2012 data, it is not out there that I could find.

Yet another reason to shut down this insane technology.

Nuke Robots Dying Left and Right in Fukushima

The reality is that although nuke has some backup plans, they don't have good depth.     And when the SHTF, they aren't ready, except with lies and excuses.

Even the Iodine pills....better than nothing, but maybe not.   They do provide a false sense of security, because there are alot more isotopes emitted during the all too frequent nuclear disaster.

And Iodine only protect against one, the one that last the least time, 8 day halflife.    People are told...if there is an accident take this pill and you will be protected.....sure thats a half lie....you will be protected against radioactive iodine.   BUT NOTHING else.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When an accident happens, and they are all too frequent, no one in government or the nuclear authority having jurisdiction is ready to deal with it.    They weren't at Three Mile Island, they refused to evacuate people when it was obvious that they were taking "husky doses"!

And when it is time to decomission or do a cleanup of an all too frequent accident.  They are not ready either.   In fact, they are never ready.

At Fukushima, their cameras were fried by radiation.   Their robots were fried by radiation, lots of them, many of them never even made the news.      At Chernobyl, the rooftop was so radioactive with debris, that robots would not last at all, so they used Bio-bots, aka Humans.    Their "lifetime" exposure time allowed was 45 seconds of work to run on the rooftop, grab some debris, and throw it over the edge and then run down the ladder to relative safety.   Then you were "retired" for life.   Except some guys went back 10 times....for 450 seconds of total work.

But at least at Chernobyl, they were real men.   They did what had to be done.      They did an amazing fight, and the death toll was high, and the disease toll was in the millions and still counting.    In Japan, the "political correctness" makes it hard to do what needs to be done.    Even some older engineer type volunteeredd to Kamikaze the job, although they wanted a real plan without senselessly throwing their lives away.    Japan's pride wouldn't take that help, at least until now.   Criminal nukers, methinks.

And now the robots....Fukushima is so deadly that robots are dying left and right.

Sickputer provide this info on ENENEWS, and here is the article by ENENEWS

Sickputer
From that article on "Nuclear Firewalker":

"It is the second time such Japanese robotic technology has experienced problems. Last October, a crawling robot developed by the Chiba Institute of Technology lost connection with operators and was abandoned inside Fukushima's No. 2 reactor building."

SP: Poor Tepco…they not only deploy suicide robots, they are liars also. They have lost at least FIVE robots inside Units 2 and 3 at Fukushima Daiichi: Two made by Americans (Packbots) and three made by Chiba Institute of Technology.

RIP Quince 1 lost in Unit 2 June 2011:

"Quince 1 is still stranded in the Reactor 2 building, "for the moment", in much lower radiation, relatively speaking (10 millisieverts/hour where it sits)."

RIP Quince 2 (aka Survey Runner):
"TEPCO announced on July 11 that the robot became inoperable [April 18, 2012] after it was sent to the Reactor 3 building basement at FUkushima I Nuclear Power Plant to measure radiation levels and take the video. The company said it would be difficult to retrieve the robot for the moment because of the high radiation levels."

Seattle Spiking to 300 CPM last week

Since Higgins house and servers were wiped out by Sandy, his very valuable website showing beta and gamma realtime charts is no longer available.

I wrote to him to ask for help on chart setup, it looks tricky, but he very likely has other priorites on his mind.

At this link is a scatter chart of recent readings,

Seattle spiking to 300 CPM last week!
Anything about 100 CPM is cause for concern.     At 100 CPM you have a significant increase in cancer if you stay in the 100 CPM zone for 1 year.

Comments from SKF

From a commenter on EXSKF

http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2012/11/pm-noda-on-dissolving-lower-house-soon.html

It's always been obvious to me that forgetful, greedy, arrogant, irresponsible, selfish and delusional humans are simply incapable of harnessing and maintaining dangerous technology for lengthy periods of time.
 and another
I think the Japanese government is going to tax the hell out of the economy regardless of if someone fixes it or not. Japan was already in what most countries consider dire financial straits before 3/11. Now they have to come up with billions from somewhere to put a band-aid on the entire mess. The Japanese should look into using some creative euphemisms for new taxes like "user fees" or "administrative fees" they can look to the US for examples. There was a day long ago when most US federal parks were free now most have a "users fee" titling a car just a few years ago was $12.50 today it cost $100 or more. Cleaning up a reactor mess doesn't grow your economy just ask the USSR. The Russians were lucky because they went bust and dumped the problem on their former nation states. Maybe Japan should turn some of the Tohoku region into an autonomous state so they can abandon it to the world like the Russians did with Chernobyl.

100 Preparation Items for Emergency Preparedness

100 Preparation Items for Emergency Preparedness

In the near future we may see some serious problems.    If you are spending your time on basic items, without a pot to piss in, like the thousands of people after Sandy that had no preparations, then you will be in much worse shape.

There will also be plenty of opportunities for advancement, and if you have your basic needs covered, then you will be able to jump on those opportunities.

With inflation and a worldwide push to competitive devaluation of all paper currencies, anything you buy now will likely just be more expensive later, so this is not wasting money.    Turn paper assets in to hard assets.    Have a good laugh as you hand someone paper and they hand you back a valuable object.   Hilarious!

The Bilderbergs are Nuclear Economic Hitmen

http://www.japantimes.co.jp/text/nb20121103d1.html

Kissinger is one of the most powerful Bilberbergs

He is a trustee at this group that is forcing Japan to remain nuclear.

This is how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Trillion Dollar Disaster Fukushima is Killing Japan

http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2012/11/tepco-costs-soar-at-12455-billion.html

TEPCO admits high cost of cleanup, but we know that TEPCO usually lies by at least an order of magnitude (ie 10)

So this is pushing to be a Trillion dollar cleanup.

Nuclear is a country killer.

It killed Russia, now its killing Japan.

Nuclear Poetry

This guy Or-Well always does topical poems, mostly posting at ENENEWS.

Some of his work (I assume he is a he, just seems like a he, but no offense if a she) is amazingly good, and strikes to the point.    Here is one of them.

The Lies of Nuclear meet the Dreams of Children

You realise you are not alone:
this must for others be as true;
that more than you live in despair
for what they can't undo.
But there are other children
in desparate circumstance
and if you act you may secure
if but for one, a chance,
and if two join, or three can act as one,
you may prevent one more child's life
from being as undone,
and if all those who know a child
and love or have been loved
will act for the most precious
their futures to improve,
much threat of death and misery
from young lives can be removed.

And so in pre-dawn grayness an inner light ignites
that can no more be extinguished
than the Sun or Human Rights,
when one by one the many come
understanding to the fight
you can rip away vast Evil's face
though it holds you by the throat
and expose the lies of Nuclear
before all Life it smotes.

Radiation Being Released at Michigan Nuke Plant

http://public-blog.nrc-gateway.gov/2012/11/06/the-palisades-shutdown-explained/

If you read this, they are venting tritium from the Klunker plant Palisades in Michigan.

Also rejoice that solar and nat gas killed the Kewaunee plant on the other side of Lake Michigan, now they plant to store 1,000,000 pounds of the spent fuel right on the Lake shore…nothing like trying to kill a great lake, we could then call it the Great Plutonium lake

Express your opinion to governor Walker at this link, and consider klik to adz too, thanks!

http://nukeprofessional.blogspot.com/2012/11/kewaunee-partial-victory-contact-gov.html

Forces of Evil are killing nuke, hilarious!

This is from "Atomic Rod"

I’m saddened, but certainly not surprised. The forces of evil that are determined to make nuclear energy uneconomical are currently stronger than those of us who are determined to ensure that the world’s current and future population has a viable, clean, abundant and reliable alternative to burning the earth’s stored hydrocarbon wealth as quickly as possible.

Sandy generated from Nuke Risk and Nuke Coverup Backlash

United Press International said nuclear plant safety was questioned by Sandy.
Washington Post highlighted how little is known about the real natural risks in the US and how dangerously close these plants are to major population centers.
The New York Times points out today that US nuclear reactors lack filters for their emergency vent system. This puts the public at great risk. The nuclear industry is opposing this because they do not want to spend the money.
Guardian UK says that US regulators and nuclear plant owners leave everything to luck and questions US nuclear safety after Sandy.
The NewYorker calls the nuclear industry to the mat for their deceptive statements on Oyster Creek‘s emergency alert during Sandy.

The old "Sleeping next to someone lie"

It is easy to expose the lies of nukers with just a little background.

One of the paid trolls on Huffpost, AtomsforPeace moniker, says that you get 20 mSv in 3 years by sleeping next to someone.    Wow.    He uses this lie to justify that a CT scan at 20 mSv is "nothing"
His claim is that sleeping next to someone is a 2mrem dose in 8 hours.

That would be *365, or 730mrem per year, or about 7.3 mSv per year.
The conversion is about 100 mren per mSv, as can be seen on my handy conversion page
http://nukeprofessional.blogspot.com/p/conversions-and-safety-limits.html

What an absurd claim, as that is way higher than the average annual dose from all sources, including man made for the average person.

But it is true that your own body gives you a .3mSv dose annually from the Potassium.

So lets calculate the dose using data from Argonne National Lab, and some simple geometric graphic methods.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Potassium (i.e. the ol' banana deception)
Each year this isotope delivers doses of about 18 millirem (mrem) to soft tissues of the body and 14 mrem to bone.   Thats 32 mrem.      Using my handy conversion page, 100 mrem =1 mSv approximately.   So roughly .3mSv total annual internal dose from Potassium.

Its a beta and gamma emitter, 90% beta.
Beta will travel a few feet through air, and a centimeter or two into flesh or water.
The source for that information is Argonne National Labs, here
http://www.ead.anl.gov/pub/doc/potassium.pdf

In sketch SK-1 below we see that the radiation leaving the body and not absorbed by the body is only about 17% of the total.

And in SK-2 we see that on the average Queen Size bed geometry that the transmitted dose to Body 2 is at most 6.9% of the leaving radiation from Body 1.

So if the Body 1 total annual internal dose is 0.3mSv * 17% * 6.9% = .0035mSv per year if sleeping together 24/7, so lets say 8 hours per day, or 1/2 of that or

0.001167 mSv per year -- Calculated by the Nuke Pro

compared to

7.3 mSv as promoted by a nuclear promoter.

This is a "lying factor" of 625500%

So we have proven that nuclear promoters lie by over 6000 times the real value.      LOL, I hear the TEPCO is looking for some "Data Communicators", the job lasts a long time!

0.001167 mSv is really negligible in the overall scheme of things, you can get off the couch and go back to the bed and rest easy.   LOL.    And go Troll Jousting, when you hear the lies of Nuke, just point them to a link at the Nuke Pro.

Here is some more reason not to worry about your own internal radiation, and TO WORRY about the external radiation sources that the medical and nuclear cartel are willing to expose you to.

The neat thing about potassium is that is spreads evenly through the body, only about 1 in 10,000 is the radioactive type, and it takes 1.3 billion year for HALF of them to "go off".    What this means is that even though it is well spread throughout the body, each particular "go off" aka an ionization hits one isolated cell structure if any at all.    The body has developed over a huge long time to be ability fix much of this "one shot" internal radiation.   It has to do with repairing strand breaks caused by the ionization.   The body is pretty good at repairing a single strand break and nothing much too weird happens.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now consider the effects of a Mixed Martial Arts fighter doing damage to the same victim at close range and repeatedly.....enter the "Hot particle"

Now when a "hot particle" get into the lungs or guts (think cesium and strontium) they can pack a much more powerful punch, and when they lodge or become part of the body structure, they can continually damage the same cellular structures, causing double strand breaks.   The body tries to repair them.   Now consider a double double strand break that get repaired incorrectly.    Horrors.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And thus the big difference between the naturally occurring Potassium, and "foreign" radiation.

Beta will travel a few feet through air, and a centimeter or two into flesh or water.

Also the NRC published a pie chart in their article here, which I debunk --- they start lying right out of the gate, right at the baseline their pile their lies high.

The next battle, we killed Kewaunee now the cleanup

Economics and Anti-Nuke sentiment have Killed Kewaunee

Dominion Resources owns this clunker.   They tried to sell it and there were no buyers.    The strong solar programs in Wisconsin (indeed!) and natural gas are just way cheaper than nuke.

Also buyers are getting alot more aware of what they are buying.   When they sell off these clunkers, they also include a gift that keeps on giving, spent fuel pools.   In Michigan, they sold a clucker plant, and also forced the buyer to take over a spent fuel pool at a completely different location.   But that was before Fukushima, that was before the Nuke Pro and ENENEWS started educating the public on how dangerous the nuke Cartel is.

Even at Kewaunee they won't really decommission the plant, because a real decommission would cost $1B to $2B.   Instead they store the used fuel on site, and then let the plant decay for 60 years.    It is subject to extreme damage and neglect in those 60 years, picture a tornado ripping through a crumbling clunker plant.

Kewaunee, partial victory Contact Gov Walker

If you think this email is relevant, pass it on.

Kewaunee is up by Green Bay
It is the first of 104 plants in the US to close down.   Congratulations to Wisconsin, leading the Pack!

The big problem with these plants is not that 1% of them blow up, but the long lasting problem of the spent fuel.   The used fuel turns into all sorts of nastiness, including plutonium which is one of the worst things man could ever conjure up.

They keep the most dangerous thing on earth (spent fuel) right next to the second most dangerous thing on earth….the reactors.

At Kewaunee, they plan on storing ALL the spent fuel the plant has ever produced, 500 yards away from Lake Michigan, for 60 to 120 years.    It has to be carefully stored, cooled and separated, or it can re-erupt in a nuclear fire that would disperse all of the nastiness.    Think a monster tornado or a terrorist attack as simple as a backpack full of plastic explosives.    They say they will have security “for forever”, however just this year a 82 year old nun sneaked  into a nuke storage site and stayed there for a day undetected.    So much for security.

Or if that spent fuel got into the Lake….that would be the end of Lake Michigan and all the cities on the lake.  Not likely, but still, accepting this kind of danger is pretty close to insanity.

Contact Gov. Walker, and get them to move that spent fuel shit to somewhere very remote and not by water resources.

A million pounds of nuclear waste stored right on the edge of Lake Michigan.   How insane is that?

Calvert Cliffs New NUke Plant Shot Down

“The clock ran out on French nuclear expansion plans in the U.S.,” declared Paul Gunter of Beyond Nuclear. “The electric companies have lost their appetite for exorbitantly expensive and increasingly risky atomic power. The new reactor fiasco is over in Maryland.”

Finally, some rational thinking.

Booze Kills Nuke

Nuker are short sighted, greedy, they want immediate gratification, they don't care about short term risks to others or long term risks to anyone.

http://enformable.com/2012/10/supervisor-at-calvert-cliffs-confirmed-positive-for-alcohol-during-fitness-for-duty-test/

And they get drunk on duty.    Drunk while operating the most dangerous thing on earth.

And these drunks just arent the worker bees, these are the supervisors.

Nuke is too dangerous for humans.

At Kewaunee workers were busted for drinking at lunch IN CONTAINMENT!   Now Kewaunee is being shut down, 1 down 103 to go.

George Washingtons blog - Nuke Source for Nuke Pro

I normally like to come up with original material, but this list was just too perfect
Stolen from ZeroHedge who stole it from George Washington.

 http://www.zerohedge.com/contributed/2012-10-26/more-dozen-nuclear-plants-near-hurricane-sandy%E2%80%99s-path-brace-impactcc

The following lists the nuclear reactors and utilities in Sandy’s potential path.
Plant More than a Dozen Nuclear Plants Near Hurricane Sandys Path Brace for Impact
While we don’t foresee any problems, the risk of nuclear accident in the U.S. is actually much greater than it was in Japan before Fukushima.
For example, fuel pools in the United States store an average of ten times more radioactive fuel than stored at Fukushima, and have virtually no safety features.
Let’s review the list and look at examples of problems experienced by the nuclear plants in Hurricane Sandy’s path:
  • Salem has been riddled with problems with security, turbines problems and  other issues.
  • Hope Creek has suffered security problems, has the same design as the Fukushima Daiichi Unit 1, has “some of the same issues with above-ground storage of spent fuel rods as Fukushima” and “was designed to withstand certain major weather events but we need to look at the potential impacts of more extreme events, especially … sea level rise and flooding”
  • Limerick has suffered electrical and other issues
  • Oyster Creek has been plagued with electrical and other problems
  • Millstone’s vulnerability is shown by the fact that it was shut down due to warm seawater
It’s not surprising that there have been problems at all of these nuclear plants. After all, the U.S. has 23 reactors which are virtually identical to Fukushima. The archaic uranium reactor designs developed more than 40 years ago are only good for making bombs.
Most American nuclear reactors are old. They are aging poorly, and are in very real danger of melting down. And yet the NRC is relaxing safety standards at the old plants. And see this.
Indeed, while many of the plants are already past the service life that the engineers built them for, the NRC is considering extending licenses another 80 years, which former chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority and now senior adviser with Friends of the Earth’s nuclear campaign David Freeman calls “committing suicide”.
